Google Insights allows you to analyze search trends and search volume across multiple languages and gain a holistic understanding of actual consumer interest in a topic.
The goal is to enable data-driven decisions based on real consumer search behavior, regardless of whether terms are used in German or English.
Topics
A key element of Google Insights is the linking of terms across different languages.
A topic includes:
The title always shows the English term
Directly below, the most relevant German term (with the highest search volume) is displayed
All relevant terms are automatically grouped together so that:
the total search volume of a topic becomes visible
no relevant search queries are missed
trends can be analyzed completely and without distortion
Collections
Collections group multiple related topics under a broader theme.
Example:
A collection such as Eye Care can combine topics like Eye Cream, Eye Serum, or Lash Serum.
This enables:
analysis of entire topic areas instead of individual terms
comparison of developments within a segment
Sort By Metrics
What does “Volume” mean?
Search Volume refers to the number of search queries of the last tracked month.
It serves as the basis for all trend calculations.
Very low volume: usually a few thousand monthly searches (category-dependent)
Very high volume: several hundred thousand monthly searches
What does “3 Month Trend” mean?
The 3-month trend indicates how the latest tracked search volume has changed compared to three months prior. The growth rate is especially emphasized.
What does “6 Month Trend” mean?
The 6-month trend describes how the latest tracked search volume has evolved compared to six months ago.
What does “12 Month Trend” mean?
The 12-month trend shows the change in search volume compared to one year ago, highlighting longer-term developments.
What does “YoY Growth” mean?
Year-over-Year (YoY) Growth describes the percentage difference between the total search volume of the last 12 months and that of the 12 months before. It indicates how search interest has changed year-over-year.
