Ingredient Insights

Updated over 4 months ago

The Ingredient Insights module enables the analysis of trends and developments in cosmetic ingredients (INCI) across different product categories.
It shows which ingredients are most commonly used in both existing and newly launched products and how their usage evolves over time.

The goal is to identify product and formulation trends early, enable competitive benchmarking, and support data-driven innovation decisions.

Category Overview

The home view displays all main product categories (e.g., Skincare, Body, Make Up, Hair, Fragrance, Health, Grooming, Kids & Baby, Sets).
Users can narrow their focus by selecting a specific category or product group.

Search Function

The search bar allows users to look up individual cosmetic ingredients by their INCI name.
Examples: “LINALYL ACETATE” or “PINUS PINASTER BARK EXTRACT.”

Trend Score Table

For each tracked ingredient, the following key metrics are displayed:

  • No. of Products – number of existing products containing the ingredient

  • No. of New Products – number of newly launched products containing the ingredient

  • Growth – percentage change in usage (e.g., +56%)

  • Trend Score – relevance score based on the ratio between existing and new products

The Trend Score is calculated algorithmically and reflects the ingredient’s current popularity:

The higher the share of new products containing a specific INCI relative to the existing total, the higher the score.
